Narrative
Arki struggled with depression, her friends and family didn't really understand even though some of them tried. They often told her to 'snap out of it' but people who are clinically depressed can't just 'snap out of it'. She needed help. Arki decided to go online and find help. After some research she discovered she wasn't alone and that 45% of the Australian population felt the same way she did and that there were plenty of places she could reach out to get the support she needed.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses in young people and increases during adolescence. One in 35 young Australians aged 4-17 experience a depressive disorder, this is equivalent to 112,000 young people. For young Australians, suicide accounts for more deaths of young people than car accidents. This number doesn't need to be so high, there are many ways to reach out and many people around to help young people.
So online Arki found ways to talk to her family and let them know how she was feeling, she found online counselling and a lot of people she could talk to.
